SnapshotPB Featherweight ICS Manual

SnapshotPB Featherweight ICS Manual

About this manual

This manual describes the SnapshotPB Featherweight ICS hammer assembly for the DYE DFF-20 Autococker Lazarus Valve. It tells you how the assembly works, how to install it, and how to tune the main spring.

The manual is one file. It has no link to the internet, and it works from any folder. You can save it and read it with no connection.

The manual shows a warning, a caution or a note in this form:

WARNING: A warning tells you about a risk of injury. Read it before you do the step.

CAUTION: A caution tells you about a risk of damage to the hammer, to the valve, or to the marker.

NOTE: A note gives you information that helps you.

The hammer

The SnapshotPB Featherweight ICS is an internal cocking system (ICS) hammer assembly for an Autococker paintball marker. It operates with the DYE DFF-20 Autococker Lazarus Valve in a marker body that has an 11/16 inch lower tube bore.

How the internal cocking system works

The cocking rod passes through the center bore of the spring guide and enters the rear cavity of the hammer. The stop nut threads onto the front end of the cocking rod inside the hammer cavity.

When the back block moves back, the stop nut pulls the hammer back until the sear catches the sear lug. The back block then moves forward and closes the bolt before the shot.

When you pull the trigger, the sear releases the sear lug. The main spring pushes the hammer forward along the cocking rod to strike the valve stem.

Only the hammer, the spring guide, and the sear lug move during the shot. The cocking rod and the stop nut stay still during the shot.

Install the hammer

WARNING: Remove the air source and the paintballs from the marker before you start. A pressurized marker can fire and cause injury.

CAUTION: Make sure that the marker body has an 11/16 inch valve bore. The Lazarus Valve fits the WGP Trilogy and modern WGP bodies with an 11/16 inch insert. It does not fit most classic WGP bodies.

NOTE: Do not put grease on the Delrin hammer body. A dry Delrin surface slides with low friction and does not hold dirt.

Install the assembly in the lower tube

  1. Thread the sear lug into the lug bore of the hammer.
  2. Slide the hammer into the back of the lower tube with the sear lug aligned with the sear slot.
  3. Put a hex key through the sear lug hole in the top of the body and turn the sear lug clockwise to lower it toward the sear.
  4. Thread the cocking rod into the marker back block.
  5. Put a hex key through the pin bore and tighten the cocking rod.

Set the sear lug depth

  1. Pull the back block back until the sear catches the sear lug.
  2. Push the back block forward.
  3. Pull the trigger to release the hammer.
  4. Turn the sear lug clockwise through the top sear lug hole if the sear does not catch the sear lug.
  5. Turn the sear lug counter-clockwise through the top sear lug hole if the sear does not release the sear lug when you pull the trigger.

Check the cocking point

  1. Pull the back block all the way back and hold it.
  2. Listen for the click of the sear on the sear lug.
  3. Adjust the back block or the actuator rod so the sear catches 1/16 inch before the stroke ends.

CAUTION: Do not let the back block hit the back of the marker body under ram pressure.

Select and tune the main spring

The DYE DFF-20 Autococker Lazarus Valve is a balanced valve. It cancels most of the air pressure force on the valve seal. The valve opens completely at a static force of approximately 25 ozf (7 N) with no air pressure.

Because the valve needs less force to open, the SnapshotPB Featherweight ICS uses a Delrin hammer body. The Delrin hammer has a moving mass of ~10 g. A standard WGP ICS steel hammer has a moving mass of ~42 g.

Select the main spring

Use a main spring with a cocked force of 3.5 to 5.25 lbf. Start with the input regulator set to 180 psi.

CAUTION: A main spring that is too strong can hold the Lazarus Valve open after the shot and vent the air.

NOTE: A cocked spring force of 4.0 to 4.5 lbf is the recommended spring force for 290 fps.

Adjust the velocity

  1. Install a main spring with a cocked force of 3.5 to 5.25 lbf.
  2. Turn the IVG out to the minimum preload position.
  3. Set the input regulator to 180 psi.
  4. Connect the air source and fire three shots over a chronograph.
  5. Turn the IVG clockwise to increase the spring preload and the velocity.
  6. Turn the IVG counter-clockwise to decrease the spring preload and the velocity.
  7. Increase the regulator pressure in steps of 5 psi if the velocity peaks below your target.
